ABOUT

Mako Miyamoto is a multidisciplinary artist whose work navigates the liminal space between the real and the surreal. Through photography and filmmaking, his practice explores themes of escapism, place, memory, and identity. Miyamoto constructs visual narratives that blur the boundaries of perception, inviting viewers into uncanny worlds that feel both familiar and strange.

A significant element of Miyamoto’s work is his use of infrared photography, a technique that captures wavelengths of light invisible to the human eye. This process reveals an unseen world pulsing beneath the surface of the everyday, transforming landscapes and subjects into abstract, vivid, and otherworldly imagery. It is both a technical and conceptual exploration of perception, presence, and hidden realities.

Born in Oregon and deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest, Miyamoto’s work is informed by personal histories and cultural mythologies. Through his photography and film, he seeks to reimagine how we see ourselves, each other, and the spaces we inhabit.

Select exhibitions include Gauntlet Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Nelly Duff (London, UK), and Stephanie Chefas Projects (Portland, OR).
